The Ancient City - Bangkok

On a trip last year I had the pleasure of visiting The Ancient City which is a 320 acre park outside of Bangkok. It consists of replicas of buildings in Thailand. Structures and styles of these buildings vary greatly from north to south despite the small size of Thailand (about the same size as California).

The night before I had arrived in Bangkok with a friend. It was his first visit and of course was eager to see what the nightlife was like. Because of the 12 hour time difference between Bangkok & Atlanta it is about impossible to sleep when showing up in Bangkok around 9 pm (9 am ET). If you factor in the fact that you were just on a plane for 24 hours there is nothing you want more than a hot shower and to get out and have a drink.

The next morning I had a meeting with my co-packer that produces CurrySimple. I was doing a factory tour. The factory is about a 2-hour drive outside of Bangkok. With about 2 hours sleep I was down in the lobby meeting my driver and off to the factory. After a great meeting and tour the director offered me a choice of 2 places to visit. I honestly had not had a good nights sleep in days and really just wanted to go to my hotel and take a 5 hour nap. My options were to either tour Pattaya or The Ancient City. I can tell you there was nothing I wanted to do LESS than visit Pattaya (The Real City of SIN) with a incredibly polite and conservative 50 year old woman. So off to The Ancient City!

If you get a chance to visit Thailand I would recommend visiting The Ancient City. Despite the 2 hours sleep before it was an amazing experience and happy I was given the opportunity to see it. Even more rewarding than my much needed 5 hour nap!
