I'm Mikey Moran — an investor and entrepreneur, and I document the real path to building wealth right here, in public. No hype, no highlight reel. The trades that worked, the ones that didn't, and what three decades of earning, losing, and rebuilding actually taught me.
How I Got Here
I started investing at 15. Nobody handed me a head start — no family money, no safety net, no mentor showing me the ropes. I learned by doing, which is a polite way of saying I learned by failing.
My first real company, CurrySimple, was America's first packaged curry sauce. I got it into Whole Foods and onto national TV and press. Then a currency crash gutted our margins, I held on about two years too long trying to save it, and in 2010 I shut it down — losing nearly everything but the house I lived in. It was brutal. It was also the best business education I ever got. Every mistake I made there set up everything that came after.
Building It Back
In 2014 I started Private Label out of a small Atlanta office while keeping a full-time job — because I believe you hold onto your income while you build, unless someone's bankrolling you. Two and a half years later it had grown enough to go all-in, and it's since become a multimillion-dollar company. That business is what bought me the freedom to do what I do now: invest, build new things, and teach.
Investing in Public
These days my focus is shifting toward the markets and building in the open. I run a long-term portfolio built on dividend and growth ETFs, a handful of individual positions, and real estate — designed for the long game, not the next hot tip. I share the actual moves over in Investing in Public, and the lessons, regrets, and wins in Investor Stories. I even ended up on CNBC next to Wall Street pros talking through a trade I still wasn't sure about — and I wrote about that honestly too.
I do this because I needed it and didn't have it. I want to be the mentor I never had, for anyone figuring out money late, early, or from scratch.
What I'm Building Now: GLZD
Right now I'm building GLZD, a men's body glaze and beauty brand — and I'm doing it out in the open. The wins, the problems, the decisions in real time. If you want to see what launching a brand actually looks like before it's polished, follow that one closely.
The Brands Behind the Story
I wear a lot of hats. Here's everything else I've built or I'm part of:
- Private Label Extensions — my flagship hair extension and beauty supply company
- Private Label Wholesale — manufacturer-direct wholesale hair
- Dropship Beauty — a Shopify app for dropshipping hair and wigs
- Dropship Bundles — multi-platform dropshipping system
- Private Label Branding — branding for hair businesses
- Hair Business Blueprint — my consulting and education brand for hair entrepreneurs
- Fearless Beauty: The Hair Business Blueprint — my book (2021)
- Hair Biz Radio — my podcast pulling back the curtain on the beauty industry (Spotify · YouTube)
Why I Do What I Do
Same reason behind all of it: I want entrepreneurs and investors to win. I came from a family where nobody "made it" financially — no inheritance, no blueprint. I had to build it from nothing, and I made every mistake on the way. If I can hand someone the knowledge I had to earn the hard way, that's the whole point.
It's okay to fail. I'm proof you can fail badly and still build something real. Follow along on TikTok and YouTube — I'm documenting all of it.
